St. Louis City Hospital: A History

City Hospital, 1932

The St. Louis Hospital School of Nursing operated from this building, popularly called either the Nurses' Residence or the Nurses' Building, at 1620 Grattan Street directly across from City hospital. An underground tunnel connected this building to the hospital complex. The School of Nursing left this location in 1968, leaving the building vacant until its demolition in 1983. Today, the barren Truman Parkway runs over the site of the building where many nurses learned how to offer medical treatment and comfort.
